Im glad people are talking about this. I tried to go over it before, but the audience wasnt ready for the idea then.

Heres how i see it: 8 skills, 1 res sig.
Your team gets 1 rez sig for every 2 players.
2 players get 1 sig
3 or 4 get 2
5 or 6 get 3
7 or 8 get 4

A morale boost can either give you 1 extra rez or refresh the whole thing, Im not sure.
But if it only gives you 1 then there should be a side option to capture more rez sigs. Maybe kill the correct NPC and it drops a item you can take to your flag stand... or something else creative.

The point is, its the most important skill in the game for a reason.
The rez sig is not just a skill, its a field mechanic.
I think players would get more out of a lot of there team builds if they had space for 8 slots instead of 7 and rez sig.

The idea for classes to have one specialty skill is a pretty neat idea. Not sure how that would work out, but it really is a nice idea.

Except remember, if it really is logical to have major runes at -35 health than -50 then look how long it took for them to agree on this and change it for the players.
I think thats a pretty small enhancement compared to the ones we are suggesting.
So, even though an extra class skill would be ok, it seems better to petition for ideas that are logically within the constructs of the existing game.

Couldn't be bothered reading all of that so it's probably already been said, but if there was 9 skills then people would just want a 10th, if there were 10 skills they'd want eleven and so on. It's the same for everyone so I don't think anyone can complain

You can give everyone a 9th slot and 75% of them still wont bring Rez Sig

I'm starting to wonder if people are even reading the actual post with the responses this is getting. I'm suggesting -->1<-- extra slot which you can -->only<-- place a res signet in, or maybe other mandatory class skills instead.
If you like the idea of the res sig but not the other skill, just say so. You don't have to disregard the entire idea because of that other iffy part of it.

Everybody is taking this in the direction of just adding a skill slot. Thats not what this post is about, its about adding a permanent rez sig beyond the 8 skill slots. Not a ninth slot.

I play mainly as an Elementalist/Mesmer and their skill bars are crowded enough without having to bring a res aswell. Since they rely on skills rather than a weapon to deal damage, each skill has to be chosen very carefully.

Energy management - Attunements, Channeling, Drains, GoE
Self sustaining - AoR, Armors (Earth, Kinetic, Obsidian), Ether feast, Mantras etc

Now that takes up around four skill slots, so taking a res for PvP would eat up the fifth. Leaving 3 for attack/disruption skills

Nonetheless the game was designed this way and so you have to suck it up and spam 2-3 spells to attack I would love an extra slot for glyph/signets only, but thst would unbalance the game too much. Doing so would mean every PvPer would carry a res, which can influence a game dramatically. It's your decision whether to sacrifice a skill for res or not

In essense, you ARE asking you add a 9th skill slot. A lot of people bring res signet, so for those people it DOES add one extra skill. The fact they can't use 9 skills is irrelevant.

This greatly unbalances everything PvE and PvP. Imagine a 55hp monk who can't be killed by melee, and just add extra damage to it? It allows them to solo UW easily again, being able to tank and bring along plenty of damage, or it'll just add one extra smite that allows them to kill off the nightmares in a second while the necro takes care of the rest.

Warriors who can stand there absorbing tons of damage from 5 other warriors, and just add that one extra skill that makes them impossible to kill.

No, 8 skill slots is enough. You need to spread the damage. If elementalists don't have enough nukage alone, that's why you take two. Share the array of skills they have, time the nuking.

YES! 9, or even 10 skill slots! Hell lets change it all, lets have 10 skill slots, and 2 elites in your bar! And its fair if everyone gets it! OR hell, since were changing the core design of the game, unlimited skill slots and all the elites you can bring! That way we can have monks that never run out of energy and invini tank/super elite damage warriors!

To the OP: This isnt WoW, this is GW. Learn to manage your skills.

Jesus christ, someone just lock or delete the thread or something. It's obvious most people don't like this idea, now people are starting with the insults. I said it isn't necessary, and basically that I don't even care about it. It was just an idea.

You don't have to bring a res sig, you don't have to bring charm animal, you can leave all your skills off your bar and then look at it and say to your self "gosh dang, 8 slots is alot!" Then fill it up.

as is, i dont think adding a spot just for rez sig is smart or fair. if a slot was added that would only hold rez sig OR any ressurection skill, id go for it. i prefer rebirth in 99 of 100 situations and ill switch to monk secondary any time im planning on bringing a rez and not using my secondary otherwise.

i would, as some have posted, like to see charm animal have double use (act like comfort). i do think its a tad unfair that pet owners pretty much are limited to 6 skills + charm + comfort. they certainly should have to have charm there, but that one only. another idea here would be to make rez sig or any rez work on pets - i think that too would be fair.

an idea i would like to see implemented is a 9th skill slot - UNUSABLE - equipped with a constant sig cap. it would of course be empty if you didnt own any, but if you had one, it would show. immediately after using it, the skill captured would dissappear and the slot would refill with another sig cap (again, assuming you have one). i cant count the number of times ive flat out forgotten to bring one. i also think its very unfair to have to use a skill slot for a sig cap knowing that skill wont help your build for the mission at all. ive taken as many as 4 out in snakes dance capping for 2 proffessions before. it was very limiting, but that in itself was MY choice. what im getting at is that if someone (warrior for example) took 3 caps to hells mission looking to cap 100blades, evis, and a secondary skill, theyre pretty much just leeching the mission. ok, maybe not leeching, but they certainly arent performing at top potential- and that hurts the groups chance of success. one reason why i think this would be a good idea is .... whats the first skill dropped (for any non-monk and for some monks too) when you want to bring a cap? you got it- rez. im guilty of it too, but ive had missions failed because 2 of the 3 surviving members had caps in their rez spots (they admitted it- heck i was dead with a cap in my rez spot at the time) and the 3rd just didnt bring rez at all. i guess i just dont think its fair to be limited or to have to completely redo an area because of which bosses spawn there.

anyway, my 2cents

I think if we ignore all answers from people who obviously did not read what's it about, than there are enough who support the idea.

Also, if every thread gets closed because people who object start to flame, than it would become very easy to get a thread you don't like closed: just find some people who start to flame

And lastely: Arenanet listens to every advice, don't be bothered if losts of players don't like it. Its up to Arenanet.

As for the arguments: Even after re-reading the whole post I dont see anything about how a permanent res signet would imbalance the existing skill system. I suppose Arenanet has read it by now (unless they were on hollidays of course ), so the rest is up to them...

i agree im not saying id love to have another skill spot but adria has a point..as soon they give us 9....ppl b wanting 10 11 12....and it would get outa hand

The original idea is not a good idea since it is essentially a 9th slot, however a 9th unique skill that has a minor effect might be fun to have. Based on what though, I don't know, since this game has no races, and having it as a unique class skill is kinda redundant since classes by nature have skills unique to themselves...

how about an 8+1 scenario... 8 skills, 1 elite.. only an elite could go in the added slot

Why? Because party size is no longer max at 8. Now that barrier is broken, I think having 10 would be good, we already have 10 buttons at the top of our screen, I think if you ascend you should get your next 2, or get one for each of the 15 pt attribute quests you do. I think this would be great, it wouldn't be unbalanced either as EVERYONE would be able to have this.

Will unbalance pvp. Balanced teams running 3 monks will gain 5 extra skill slots as the monks have no use for res. All the gimmick builds suck as IWAY b-spike, etc will gain 8 extra skills as everyone is more or less free to use res.
